I should preface this post by saying I lived, and still do sometimes, with a lack mentality. Even when I had money, I would think of what would happen when it was gone again. I never practised true gratitude when I got it. I was one of those who would complain that the minute my paycheck hit, it would be gone again to bills. I complained about it when I should have practised gratitude that I had the money to cover my debts and keep a roof over my head. There were some months when I didn’t have enough to cover all my bills and I had to push dates back or ask for money. I wonder if money would have flowed to me easier if I wasn’t stuck in the ‘not enough’ mentality.
I’ve had my account be negative before and felt that despair. It’s hard to be grateful when you’re in that financial spot. If you are in that spot, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There may be community programs or can family cover you until you’re paid again? Can you pick up an extra shift if you’re in the restaurant business? Don’t think of that red number as permanent. It is temporary. We are always in financial transition. Our account goes up and down all the time.
Practise gratitude no matter what the number is.
It’s not always easy, by any means. Especially if you’re self aware enough to know that you’ve lived in lack mentality for years. That mentality was forged over years of the home and society you were raised in. People in poverty and even middle class that live paycheck to paycheck have a hard time shifting if all they’ve known is the struggle to put food on the table and pay bills. Their mind has shifted into survival mode. That mode becomes ingrained in every way they see the world around them. It rewires their brain response. Therefore, switching from survival to prosperity mode requires you to rewire your brain again. That takes a change of habit and repetition.
Let’s do an exercise every morning:
Pull your account information on your phone. Start taking deep breaths and remember what that money has been used on so far this month. Scroll through your transaction history if you need an itemized reminder of what you spent your money on. What experiences did it allow you to have? What bills were you able to cover? What meals were you able to prepare? Think of these things and give gratitude that you were able to afford them.
Now put your fingers over the amount on the screen, close your eyes, and envision a green light of energy coming from above you and down through your head. Envision it flowing through your whole body and out of your fingers into your bank account. Imagine that number rising. Open your eyes and say ‘I am grateful for the money energy flowing to me and through me to sustain a life of ease and stability.’
From this moment on, pay everything with gratitude.
When you use your card to pay for groceries, thank the money energy/God/Gods/Universe for the ability to make this purchase. Same with paying bills or anything that brings you joy. Give thanks at every point of transaction.
Feel the gratitude and joy fill you up. Take deep breaths and imagine your energy as a beautiful green, attracting even more money energy your way.
I will do it with you. Let’s see if by January 1st, the shift in how we interact and view money brings more of that energy into our lives and bank accounts.
Tell me in the comments below. What transaction this month are you most grateful for?
AFFIRMATION
Thank you for the opportunities that brought this prosperity to me. This will help me (whatever you plan to use the money for).
